Plant Performance Testing

Through a combination of specialized analytical methods, engineering tools (including Sulsim®), and process knowledge, Sulphur Experts can provide detailed information and recommendations on a wide variety of processes. Common performance evaluation types include:

Raw Gas or Liquid Streams

  • Detailed and accurate stream compositions for use in the design of downstream process units

Amine Sweetening Units (in conjunction with Amine Experts)

  • Detailed and accurate material balances, including raw inlet gas, sweet gas, flash gas, and acid gas

Sulphur Recovery Units (Modified Claus, Sub-Dewpoint Units and Others)

  • Detailed heat and material balances

  • Accurate interstage and overall conversion and recovery efficiencies

  • Reaction furnace operation (contaminant destruction efficiencies, temperature calculations, conversion efficiencies, formation rates of additional species)

  • Catalyst Beds (catalytic activity, dewpoint margins, hydrolysis rates)

  • Reheaters (heat duties, burner stoichiometry checks)

  • Condensers (heat duties, sulphur production rates, entrainment checks)

  • Metering (verification of plant metering, Claus ratio checks)

  • Analyzers (accuracy checks for feed forward and feed back analyzers)

Selective Oxidation Units (SuperClaus™)

  • Unit conversion, selectivity, and yield values

Amine-based Tail Gas Units

  • Tail Gas Heater / Burner (confirmation of burn stoichiometry, CO/H2 formation rates; evaluate for oxygen and hydrocarbon breakthrough

  • Hydrogenation Reactor (calculation of sulphur loading and reactor demand for reducing gases (H2/CO), catalytic activity, residual sulphur concentrations)
