Sulphur Experts Analytical Capabilities

Bulk Gas Analysis

Employing specially developed in-house gas chromatograph systems, Sulphur Experts is able to determine the following compounds for sulphur plant applications:

Sulphur components: H2S, SO2, COS, CS2

Hydrocarbon components: CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C3H8, iC4H10, nC4H10, iC5H12, nC5H12, C6+, C6H6

Air/inert gas components: H2, Ar/O2, N2, CO, CO2

The normal analytical range for H2 is 0.5 to 100 percent. The normal analytical range for the sulphur components is 10 ppm to 100 percent. The normal analytical range for all other components is 25 ppm to 100 percent. The analytical ranges for the sulphur and hydrocarbon components can be extended to 0.1 ppm if required.

Special Analysis

Although not generally part of the routine (bulk) gas analysis, Sulphur Experts has the ability to perform special analysis on gas plant and refinery samples. Some of our special analytical capabilities include the sampling of:

Ammonia Analysis

Generally, if a sour water stripper off-gas stream is present at a site, then ammonia will also be analyzed for in the sour water stripper and the Wasteheat exchanger outlet streams. The testing for ammonia at other plant locations is also possible. The normal analytical range for ammonia is 5 ppm to 100 percent.

Additional Analyses

Sulphur Experts also has the ability to accurately detect the following species:

  • HCN

  • Methanol

  • Mercaptans to C6 and other reduced sulphur species (di-sulphides, etc.)

  • Hydrocarbons to C10 including aromatics

H2S in liquid Sulphur

Sulphur Experts has the ability to measure the concentrations of H2S and H2Sx in the liquid sulphur product. As the transportation of sulphur follows ever stricter guidelines, the ability to determine the H2S concentration of the sulphur product is becoming more important. The normal analytical range for measuring H2S is liquid sulphur is 2 ppmw to 300 ppmw
