Previous Improvements to Sulsim®

Sulphur Experts has incorporated many features into the latest release of Sulsim. Improvements and bug-fixes in Sulsim® from the previous versions (versions 5.13, 5.08, 5.05, 5.03, 5.02) include the following: (All of these fixes are incorporated into Sulsim® 6)

  • 32-bit Compilation   (more ...)

    • Sulsim®5.13 was re-compiled into a 32 bit architecture, for improved performance and stability in 32-bit operating systems. Sulsim® 6 is a 32-bit program.

  • Improved Memory Allocation to Virtually Eliminate Program Crashes    (more ...)

    • Previous versions of Sulsim® were prone to having program crashes in cases with long execution times as a result of problems with re-allocation of temporary memory. This problem has been solved with the 32-bit compilation.

  • Refined Reaction Furnace Empirical Correlations    (more ...)

    • A large proportion of the data used to generate the four Empirical Reaction Furnace correlations has been reviewed. This has resulted in a fine tuning of the correlations overall. The impact of these changes will be most obvious in very lean (low H2S) acid gas feed simulations.

  • Correction to the Water Compensation Calculation    (more ...)

    • Sulsim® 5.13 corrected an error in calculating the water content of a stream which the user has input as "dry basis". This will have a small but direct impact on the calculated water content of any stream in which Sulsim® calculated the water content based on a set of saturated flowing conditions.

  • Corrections to the Temperature Convergence Routine of Direct Reheater   (more ...)

    • Sulsim® 5.13 corrected an error in the temperature convergence routines. In previous versions, the reheater would not necessarily converge to the value input by the user if there was liquid sulphur in the inlet process gas stream. This was a result of incorrect handling of the enthalpy of this two phase process stream.

  • Corrections to the Enthalpy Balance of Selective Oxidation Reactors   (more ...)

    • Sulsim® 5.13 corrected an error in the enthalpy balance in the selective oxidation reactor. In previous versions the enthalpy of the inlet air was not included in the overall enthalpy balance. This resulted in an incorrect outlet temperature.

  • User defined convergence criteria    (more ...)
    • Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 allow the user to specify the convergence criteria for iterative processes. Depending on the User specified criteria, Sulsim® iteration cycles can be altered to loosen the convergence cycle and speed up the case run.

  • Stream flow inputs in units of mass and volume    (more ...)
    • Stream flow rates for Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 can be entered in standard units of mass or volume. A new button  appears on the left-hand side of the flow input dialog box, allowing the user to toggle between "Gas Flow (mass)" or "Gas Flow (molar)". This allows the user to input any stream flow in either units of mass or in units of volume

  • Improved Help file    (more ...)
    • Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 features an expanded Help file that includes an "Advanced Features and Tips" section. The new section explains some of the advanced features of Sulsim, including:
      • when and how to set-up multiple trains using Sulsim® 5.08/5.13
      • optimizing Sulsim® 5.08/5.13 for speed or accuracy
      • a discussion of possible errors and troubleshooting

  • Flexible air control criteria    (more ...)
    • Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 allow the User to specify certain tail gas conditions using the Air Demand Analyser unit, to match actual process data or to set non-standard applications. The Air Demand Analyser dialog box allows the User to select the method of air control by setting the tail gas conditions, based on "Air Demand", "H2S/SO2 ratio", "H2S Concentration" or "SO2 Concentration"

  • Auto-save Feature    (more ...)
    • Should Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 stop executing and the User be unable to continue to work with the case upon re-starting the program, Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 will identify any cases which were not properly terminated. These cases will be available to work with.

  • Improved Bypass Stream    (more ...)
    • A bypass stream may now have a fractional bypass of the entire stream or a fraction bypass of individual components.

  • Bug Fixes from previous versions    (more ...)
    • The following bugs have been fixed from Sulsim® versions 5.02/5.03/5.05 as of March 16,1999:

      • Multiple Train Installation: Sulsim® allows a total of four "trains" to be installed in a single case. In the original release, if a train was installed and subsequently deleted, the "position" for that train was lost, thus limiting the total number of trains to three. This problem has been resolved in Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13.
      • Thermal Incinerator: Sulsim® allow for the User to specify the amount of fuel gas flow to this unit. If the User specified a fuel gas flow of 0.000 (units), Sulsim® incorrectly calculated a non-zero value. This problem has been resolved in Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13.
      • Performance Table Summary: In previous versions, the Performance Summary Table incorrectly calculated the cumulative conversion and recovery efficiency values when bypasses and multiple trains where involved. The Performance Summary in Sulsim® 5.08 and 5.13 has been repaired to ensure the correct reporting of these values.
