John Sames, P.Eng.

 

John is recognized worldwide as an authority on sulphur recovery, particularly in the field of process optimization. His company, Sulphur Experts, (and its predecessor Western Research) is focused on the efficient operation of sulphur recovery plants in oil and gas applications and has gained a reputation as the leader in process knowledge and plant evaluation. He has co-founded sister companies, Amine Experts, offering similar services to amine processing plants and Energy Experts, focussing on energy conservation and greenhouse gas(GHG) reduction.

John has been involved in every aspect of the optimization of sulphur recovery for over 30 years, initially working in a large gas plant in northern Alberta, and for the past 27 years at Western Research/Sulphur Experts.

John is the author of over 30 technical papers on various subjects relating to sulphur recovery and is the co-author of the definitive text on the subject. He has presented the seminar on Sulphur Recovery more than 180 times at locations throughout the world.

Bruce W. Klint,

Bruce Klint, P.Eng.

 

Bruce has been directly involved in all aspects of the process engineering consulting work conducted by Sulphur Experts (and its predecessor companies) for more than 15 years. He has provided expert advice and consulting services in the area of plant inspections, testing and plant optimization for the sour gas and oil refining industries. This includes working on plant optimization projects in more than 250 operating facilities around the world.

Bruce is also one of the primary speakers at Sulphur Experts’ (Western Research) world recognized Sulphur Recovery Seminar which has been presented at nearly 200 sites around the world. He has primary responsibility for coordinating and completing all engineering tasks related to Western Research’s sulphur plant simulation package Sulsim® which is recognized as the premier simulation package for sulphur recovery in the industry.

Prior to joining Sulphur Experts, he spent 6 years operating, designing and constructing both upstream and downstream oil and gas facilities including: well head equipment, pipelines, gas treating units, sulphur recovery units and gas compression equipment.

Al Wakelin,

Al Wakelin, P.Eng.

 

Al, a Chemical Engineer, brings over 30 years of experience in the Nuclear and Waste Management Industries. For the past 15 years, Al has held a number of senior positions in the design and operation of the  Alberta Special Waste Treatment Centre and is recognized as an expert in the field of waste incineration.

As a co-founder of Energy Experts, Al leads the company's efforts in the area of energy conservation and GHG reduction in gas plant and refinery operations.

Al's operational and project management experience allows him to work closely with Sulphur Experts' field engineers and designers to ensure that projects address the necessary technical and operations issues.

Jamie Swallow,

Jamie Swallow, P.Eng.

 

Jamie is responsible for all services and products offered by Sulphur Experts in the USA. His 18 years in the sour gas processing industry as analytical specialist, process engineer and sales engineer will allow him to work closely with Sulphur Experts' field engineers to ensure the projects undertaken by Sulphur Experts are performed to your satisfaction.

Prior to rejoining Sulphur Experts, Jamie was involved in technical sales for a large process instrumentation and control company and has worked for Sulphur Experts and Western Research in all areas of sulphur plant testing and performance evaluation.

Jan Kiebert,

Jan Kiebert

 

Jan Kiebert is the Sulphur Experts Regional Manager for Europe and Middle East, based in our Netherlands office. Jan's main functions are to co-ordinate the marketing and sales efforts and the services activities provided by both Sulphur Experts and Amine Experts in these regions.

Prior to joining Sulphur Experts, Jan was Sales Manager for Duiker Combustion Engineers in the Netherlands, the leading supplier of burners and incinerators to the Sulphur Recovery Industry.

His 18 years of experience and in-depth know-how of combustion systems for Sulphur Plants allows him to work closely with his engineering colleagues at Sulphur Experts on specification and optimisation of burner systems.

Jan is fluent in Dutch.

Rocky Oshiro,

Rocky Oshiro

 

Rocky is a Technologist and comes to us with over 25 years of experience mainly working as ISO Quality Systems Manager and Product Quality Manager at Ametek (and previously Western Research).

Rocky knows the sulphur industry well and is ensuring that our methodology and procedures adhere to quality standards demanded by our internal procedures and by our clients.

Rocky's main function is to co-ordinate the delivery efforts of both Sulphur Experts and Amine Experts globally and to manage our HSE program.

Gerald’s experience in the field of sulphur recovery is global, having been based at Sulphur Experts’ offices in both Canada and Germany and having worked on projects in more than 30 countries

Mike H. Sheilan,

Mike Sheilan

 

Over the past eighteen years, Mike has been involved in all aspects of the Natural Gas Processing Industry, primarily in relation to the chemicals used to treat gas and the processes that use these chemicals. He has provided expert advice and consulting services in the area of hydrate control, gas dehydration, gas and liquid sweetening, hydrocarbon recovery and sulphur plant operations. Most recently, he has focused on plant troubleshooting and plant optimization for the sour gas and oil refining industries. This includes working on plant start-up and optimization projects for more than 100 facilities around the world.

Mike is also one of the Advisory Board Members for the world-renowned Laurence Reid Gas Conditioning Conference (LRGCC) at the University of Oklahoma. He has been published in the Oil and Gas Journal and he has presented papers at various conferences including the LRGCC, NACE, and CanEnergy. he is recognized as a leading authority on gas processing in Western Canada and has performed training for most of the major producers in the industry.

Egbert Van Hoorn,

Egbert Van Hoorn

 

Egbert has a reputation in Western Europe as a problem solver for amine plants and it is this skill that he applies in his position as senior consultant for Amine Experts in Europe. Egbert has a 17 year history with Shell International in the Netherlands and France, with Comprimo and later with Huntsman working on troubleshooting, testing and start-ups of hydrotreating, Merox, hydrocracking, sour water stripper and amine units. With Huntsman he was technical service manager for Europe, Middle East and Australasia. He has also worked as technical manager for Fenysco a company specializing in solving chemical problems for the oil and gas industry.

Egbert is known as a trouble-shooter and a trainer and it is in these capacities that he has recently joined Amine Experts. Egbert is fluent in Dutch, German and French.

Gerald is fluent in German.

Peter J. Seville,

Peter Seville, P.Eng.

 

Since 1996 Peter has been conducting on-site sulphur plant performance assessments and process optimisation. In addition to providing engineering evaluations to clients with existing and proposed sulphur recovery units, he also specialises in thermal oxidiser optimisation.

Prior to joining Sulphur Experts, Peter was working in the air quality and risk assessment field for all types of industrial projects in Canada. He also spent seven years designing and constructing downstream oil and gas facilities including gas processing plant modifications, sulphur recovery units, compressor stations, enhanced oil recovery and treatment facilities, as well as control instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Since 1999, he has been operating the European office of Sulphur Experts in The Netherlands.

Peter is fluent in Dutch and French.

For over 10 years, Farsin has been directly involved in all aspects of the process engineering consulting work conducted by Sulphur Experts Inc. Returning to Canada in 1998 after working two years for Sulphur Experts in Germany, Farsin has been providing expert advice and consulting services in the area of plant inspections, testing and plant optimization for the sour gas and oil refining industries.

Prior to joining Sulphur Experts, Farsin was a facilities engineer at a several northern Canadian gas plants.

Ben Spooner has joined Amine Experts as a process engineer amine plant trouble-shooter. Previously working for one of the large amine suppliers for the past 5 years, his experience is in the field as a trouble shooter.

Ben will provide onsite assistance to our team of Amine Experts internationally, and will undertake trouble-shooting, simulation and optimisation studies in his own right.

Jason Grundler

Jason Grundler

 

Jason has vast experience in both process engineering and operations management. Having spent time in the oil and gas, waste management and mining industries, he has worked hands on with a range of process unit operations. Jason's primary focus has been on operating practices to improve energy efficiency within the gas processing industry, as well as incineration optimization. Caroline joined Sulphur Experts in 2006 and has had previous experience working in laboratories.

Lisa MacKeracher

 

Joining Sulphur Experts in 2006, Lisa is a graduate of Computer Engineering Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 2002. She also has a very strong background in CAD work and safety.

Lisa’s previous work at Ametek Western Research as a CAD Operator and Safety Coordinator, will assist Sulphur Experts in Safety, Design of the engineering work and IT support.

Chad is a graduate of Mount Royal College with a degree in Computer Information Systems.

Chad manages all aspects of Sulphur Experts' computer infrastructure. He is developing methodologies and streamlining processes from an IT perspective in order to allow Sulphur Experts to better serve existing and future customers.

Ming Yu,
PhD Chemical Engineering

Software Development Engineer

Ming Yu

 

Ming is a PhD Chemical Engineer with a major in Thermodynamics. He also has expertise in software programming. He graduated from University of Petroleum in Beijing and has done post-doctorate studies in the Netherlands and in Japan.

His career has included working for Hyprotech - working on HYSYS development, and more recently, Ming has worked for Jacobs and SNC Lavalin on process design and optimization.

In joining Sulphur Experts, Ming's efforts will be primarily focused on the continued development and enhancement of Sulsim and other Sulphur Experts software.

Ming is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
